The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) is recruiting for a Connecticut Careers Trainee (target class: Transportation Planner 1) in the Enterprise GIS Data Management & Integration Unit. This entry level opportunity is within the Bureau of Policy & Planning at our headquarters located in Newington, Connecticut.
ROLE
This entry level position will be responsible for tasks required to fulfill objectives of the unit, including but not limited to: mobile field data collection application development, web application data editing development, data validation rule development in editing processes, web service publication, and ArcSDE maintenance & management scheduling.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
· Monday – Friday
· Full-time (40 hours per week)
· First shift
· Location: Newington, CT
· In the P-4 (Engineering, Scientific and Technical) bargaining unit
· This position would report to a Transportation Supervising Planner or employee of a higher level.
· This position is eligible to apply for telework after successful completion of the working test period, and thereafter, in accordance with the Telework Policy. Employees in their initial working test period must work on site in the office.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must be able to meet the experience and training requirements of the designated job class at the completion of the development program.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Geographic Information Systems or Geography, or a closely related degree;
· Experience problem-solving with an emphasis on data architecture & modeling, data linkage, and GIS application configuration through course work, work experience, or internships
· Experience utilizing geospatial data management tools such as Esri’s ArcGIS Desktop Suite
(ArcMap, ArcCatalog, etc.) ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, Esri’s ArcGIS Enterprise web-based suite (Web-App Builder, Survey123, Collector, Field Maps, Experience Builder), and Safe Software’s Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) through course work, work experience, or internships
· Experience working with a variety of datasets and databases (e.g. Oracle, ArcSDE, SQL) through course work, work experience, or internships
· Experience working with Esri’s Arcade programming languages to facilitate geospatial data management and analysis through course work, work experience, or internships;
· Experience with Data Governance principles and current practices within the industry
