The Town of Westport is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Town Planner for the Planning Board. The Planning Board has many ongoing initiatives including, but not limited to, climate resilience and hazard mitigation planning and expanding the South Coast Bikeway. In the near future, the office is prioritizing projects related to habitat restoration, creating new transportation opportunities for more vulnerable populations, incremental housing and commercial zoning enhancements, and improving municipal stormwater management. The Planning Office team has undertaken ambitious grant and project implementation while maintaining a very supportive and collaborative work environment. We frequently work with regional partners like the Buzzards Bay Coalition and the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development Commission.
This position provides administrative and technical work in coordinating the review process for subdivision development applications, special permits, site plans and related matters, GIS mapping, grant writing and administration, MS4 permit compliance, long-range planning, community engagement and all other work as required. Works under the administrative direction of the Town Planner; performs responsible tasks of a complex nature which require the exercise of judgment and initiative in conformance with state and local laws related to subdivision, site plan, and special permit regulation, and certificates of decision; working knowledge of Massachusetts zoning and subdivision laws and other related land use regulations. Knowledge of planning principles and practices. Bachelor’s degree in Planning or related field and two years of experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
