This position is responsible for a variety of transit planning activities within the Transportation Planning Department, including but not limited to: managing corridor studies, federal funding programs, and special projects with a focus on transit planning; overseeing project selection, contract administration, and consultant activities; assisting in organizing Transportation Committee meetings and activities; and performing other tasks as assigned. The position will require collaboratively working with others, including staff from the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT), federal agencies, and municipalities.
Candidates should have a knowledge of and experience with transit and transportation planning; various modes including rail, bus rapid transit, fixed-route bus, paratransit, and microtransit; comprehensive service analyses; federal transportation planning regulations; CTDOT policies; government operations; and project management. The position requires strong oral and written communication skills; the ability to speak in public; proficiency with word-processing and spreadsheets; the ability to prioritize work assignments of multiple projects; and effectiveness under pressure of variable deadlines. Candidates should have the ability to establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with CRCOG management and staff, committee members, municipal officials, consultants, and members of the public.
The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in transportation planning, urban planning, or a closely related field. This education should be supplemented by a minimum of seven years of increasingly responsible experience. An equivalent combination of training will be considered. A Master’s degree is preferred and would count as one year of professional experience. Certification with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is strongly preferred.
Total Compensation
The current full-time (35 hours/week) salary range is $76,851 – $99,906 (Grade 5). CRCOG offers a competitive benefits package including a defined contribution retirement plan (currently 10% of salary with no match required); medical, vision, dental, life insurance; short-term and long-term disability; tuition assistance; and paid vacation and holidays. A part-time position (approximately 21 hours/week) would receive an hourly rate based on the salary ranges above and would not be eligible for CRCOG’s benefits package.
